About Gary Heatherly
Biography
Based in Knoxville TN, Gary Heatherly has been capturing life via still image for over 30 years. In addition to three books, Knoxville Then and Now and Knoxville, Gateway to the South and most recently, Knoxville Green By Nature, his work has appeared extensively on front covers and inside feature articles in national magazines, on TV, and in ads for clients around the world. His photography is continuously being used for local, regional and national clients on assignment as well as through his extensive stock library. Gary is a Fine Arts graduate from the University Of Tennessee with a BFA in Drawing and Painting and studies in architecture and art history.

Magazines such as Outside Magazine, Men’s Journal, Estates International, Caribbean Travel & Life, Delta’s Sky Magazine, and American Airlines World Travel. Advertisements for national clients such as Coca-Cola, Bacardi Rum, Cunard Cruise Lines, and numerous other national clients.
Television such as in 1994 when Gary was chosen to fly to the Philippines to shoot extensive locations throughout the country for the Miss Universe Pageant being held in Manila. His photos were enlarged to 20 x 50 foot murals used as backgrounds for the internationally telecast event seen by hundreds of millions of people around the world.
Commercial Projects
After more than 30 years in commercial photography, concentrating in advertising, architectural, editorial, stock, fashion and fine arts, Gary has returned full circle to his fine art beginnings. His photography is now being used for album covers and interior architectural graphics for clients. His work is also available for advertising campaigns and promotional visual projects. His ever expanding private collectors are a major portion of his new chapter. The many years of photography has taken him around the world on assignments such as photographing presidents and other world leaders as well as famous artist works of Rodin and Picasso. Being a painting and drawing artist as well as a musician, Gary has worked extensively with artist for their promotion and photographic needs. His ever expanding roll of music collaboration has grown from his attendance and photographing a world renowned music festival called Big Ears. This has led to connections with musicians around the world as well as record companies and designers.
Ongoing Projects
Gary has been featured in a number of books, Knoxville Gateway to The South, Knoxville Green By Nature, his first self published book Knoxville Then & Now, which won a National Book Of The Year Award and America 24/7, a national book project capturing a week in the life of America. He is currently exploring new media collaborations and products as well as gallery partnerships.
